Counseling for Relationship Issues

Relationship issues can exist in any number of kinds of relationships:

  1. Love and intimate relationship (straight and gay)

  2. Family based relationships: parent, child, sibling and in-law relationships

  3. Workplace relationships: colleague, people you supervise and manager/boss

  4. Friendships

Emotional connection and trust are foundations for the development of lasting bonds in a relationship. A healthy relationship is not built upon the foundation of one feeling inferior, diminished, dominated, controlled or controlling. I believe that only when people relate as peers is it possible to experience mutual respect, support for one another, and have the ability to disagree without the threat of losing the relationship. With that type of foundation a healthy relationship will thrive.

Relationship issues can be addressed in a variety of modalities such as individual, couples or family counseling sessions. My model allows for such flexibility.  For example, someone working in their individual therapy may focus on challenges they are experiencing within their marriage or significant other.  The therapy will often help them find ways to better understand their own role in the problem, learn to communicate more honestly or behave in a better manner thus feeling more satisfied or fulfilled.  An individual in therapy may also work towards coming to accept that a relationship that had once been meaningful is no longer and work towards accepting and making changes within themselves and within the relationship.  My experience has shown that one important sign of a successful outcome of psychotherapy is healthier and happier relationships.

For 25 years I have been working in the field of mental health counseling and practicing as a psychotherapist. I have treated a wide range of presenting problems.  I manage my own practice and have developed a model that merges professionalism and clinical skill with warmth and care.  I create a supportive therapeutic environment where people can explore and discuss intimate and difficult emotions, memories of the past and challenges of the present day.  My high level of skill and my caring approach facilitate successful outcomes.

Relationships come in all shapes and sizes.  You may be thinking that you are having ‘relationship issues’ because you’re having too many conflicts, concerns or feelings of dissatisfaction within one or more of your relationships.

“Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength,

while loving someone deeply

gives you courage.”
