    We all strive for healthier lifestyles.  Medical research and common sense tells us that our mental health is strengthened and sustained when we are pursuing and living a healthy lifestyle and that our physical well-being promotes strong mental health.  I offer Lifestyle Coaching as a unique component of my overall psychotherapy practice.  Clients can request Lifestyle Coaching as a distinct service that can be integrated into a broader psychotherapy experience.


Lifestyle Coaching is a style of counseling that aims to motivate and promote positive behavior change.  Lifestyle Coaching, like psychotherapy, relies on the principles of confidentiality, treatment goals that are mutually established and the process of behavior change is achieved with support, education and guidance.  However, Lifestyle Coaching tends to rely on a more structured approach with an emphasis on changing or modifying specific behaviors to enhance wellness and health. 


This approach works well for such common complaints as:


  1. Stress related problems or ailments

  2. Avoidant behaviors around the areas of exercise, poor nutrition or diet

  3. Difficulties to follow through on medical recommendations

  4. Sleep disturbances

  5. Chronic pain

  6. Anger management problems

  7. Problems managing use of alcohol, drugs or cigarette smoking

Techniques used in Lifestyle Coaching include assessing, exploring and identifying goals for change, followed by designing an action plan.  Stress management and wellness plans are put together in a collaborative manner. I teach mindfulness breathing techniques utilizing the emWave2 technology, in my office.  This technology helps me to teach my clients how to recognize and reduce physiological symptoms of stress and anxiety. These relaxation and revitalization techniques are practiced in the office and are easily incorporated into daily stress management activities.
